Mongolia travels 2008

Hong Kong was a wash out as far as flying goes. The wind never turned from the north and with no sites in this direction I was left to Sail and mountain bike. With a 20kg luggage limit from Hong Kong to Beijing i had to do some cleaver organising and with the help of my Reverse harness i managed to get a full paragliding rig , including a sky Ultralite onto the plane as hand baggage! My over weight only cost me $30 CDN. China is an exiting country to travel in but the pollution caused by the amount of industry here means not a lot of visibility. I have been in touch with the flying man club who are near Beijing and using buses and taxis got out to their base, a total of 4hrs travel, I waited until 3pm to fly from the Ming Tombs site with only 4km visibility. The flight was only 30mins as the sun can hardly penetrate the smog to warm the ground. The 3hrs to get back to my hostel made for a long day, however it was worth it. The next day i boarded the train for An Yang then got a bus to LInzhou. Here i finally got to the Linzhou paragliding club. Yesterday was rained out! Today i finally got to launch, it is a nice rolling hill on top of a 600m vertical rock face! I am with a bunch of Russians at the moment and only the base jumper got in the air. waiting for good conditions an unexpected thunder storm arrived and stopped play for today. One more day here then it's off to Mongolia and to start teachin Baasanbat to fly.
